It is important to know the process that follows an organ donation:
-
The patient must be in a hospital unit.
-
The clinical diagnosis of brain death is established.
-
Studies are performed to confirm brain death.
-
Loss of life is certified.
-
The National Transplant Center (CENATRA), the National Transplant Registry (RNT) or the State Transplant Council (COETRA) is notified and referenced depending on each case.
-
The likely donor is assessed and managed by the Hospital Transplant Coordinator.
-
The option of donation is offered to families, in the case of a non specified instructive after death.
-
The CENATRA, or depending on the case, COETRA, is notified for the allocation of organs and tissues and procurator groups are contacted.
-
We proceed to the completion of the filling of official documents, established by the CENATRA. If the cause of death involves a violent incident, this will be reported to the Public Prosecutor, in order for the necessary donation documents to be annexed for the preliminary investigation.
-
After the documentation, in both cases, the procurement of organs and tissues is undertaken, only performed in authorized hospitals, to then send the recovered organs/tissue to destinations already established by the CENATRA.
-
Finally, after the proxy, the body is made available to the family or to the Public Prosecutor, as appropriate.
The process that follows tissue donation is following:
-
The prospective donor is in cardiac arrest, this being estabilshed as the cause of death.
-
The family is addressed about the possibility of donation from the Hospital Transplant Coordinator.
-
In case of acceptance, proceed to fill all official documents established by the CENATRA.
-
Should the cause of death be related by a violent act, the Public Ministry will be notified, otherwise we will proceed to take tissue and blood sampling to rule out infectious diseases.
-
Once completed, the body is made available to the family or Public Prosecutor.
-
Any attempt on a life in a desperate attempt to get organs to meet the demand you have is prohibited, you should not consider the human being as a set of products that can be used in another being, but on the contrary, solidarity and selflessness of the person, allowing it to make a social gift to others, self-belief and thinking about life itself.
